ELIZABETHTOWN SEARCH & RESCUE
CASART was notified by NYSFEDSAR of a request for Type III searchers & Crew Bosses to search for Nancy Foster, a missing 76 year old female and Alzheimer’s patient.
Searchers were to report to an Incident Command Post at 7:30 AM at the Elizabethtown Fire Department, Woodruff Rd off of 9N. Mrs. Foster went missing from her home on Garondah Way, Elizabethtown, at about 12:30 p.m. on 11/17/10, police said. Foster is 5 foot, 7 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds and suffers from Alzheimer's. She was last seen wearing tan pants and a blue windbreaker.
Weather: high 42, windy, 20% chance of precipitation.
CASART members reporting were Ron Dearlove, Bruce Knudsen and Paul Repak.
Paul and Bruce were co-crew bosses for a type 3 search with 11 volunteers. 2
Crew Bosses were assigned to each team because all other searchers were
untrained. Ron Dearlove was on another type 3. Mrs. Foster was located
alive. Environmental Conservation Officer Steve de la Rosa and his K-9
German shepherd Gunner discovered Mrs. Foster about one mile uphill from her
residence. “She did not realize she was lost,” la Rosa said. “She just
thought she had gone for a walk in the woods this morning. She was heading
away from the house and seemed confused and was surprised when I called her
name. When I told her we were looking for her, she said, ‘Why?’
