CASART was notified by NYSFEDSAR of a request for Type III searchers, Crew Bosses and Type I searchers on 11/2/2010 for a search on Wednesday Morning 11/3/10 7:30 AM in Shandaken, NY, Ulster County in the Catskills Area.

 The subject was Christopher Brennan, a 20 year old male who had been missing since Sunday, 10/31/10 at 7PM. The subject’s ATV and clothes were located and searching was in that vicinity.

The Incident Command Post was at the Shandaken Fire Department. Weather for the search was sunny with temps in the 40s and winds SW at 5-10 MPH.  Terrain was rugged, steep, slippery, and leaf covered. Searchers were told to be prepared for assignments lasting 6-8 hours.

 CASART Members responding were Bruce Knudsen and Doug Pirnie. Bruce was assigned to a Type I search with a Ranger and Doug was assigned to a type III. The subject was located by searchers around 10:15AM, deceased due to exposure.

Bruce noted that the search was well organized and well attended with many Rangers, police officers and volunteers participating. Doug reported that there was quite a large response (perhaps 75 to 100 people involved).
